The Ruwenzori mountains are located on the border between Uganda and
the Democratic Republic of Congo in east central Africa. They contain the
largest snowfield in tropical Africa and numerous large lakes, as well as
abundant and varied plant, bird, and animal life. The higher peaks,
reaching over 16,000 feet, are frequently shrouded in mist, giving
them a quality of mystery. Ruwenzori means 'Rainmaker', and the
range has also been referred to for many centuries as the
'Mountains of the Moon'.
