Great site, I will refer future students to it. A perfect 5th is also the first notes to the Star Wars. There are a lot of pink floyd albums that use the major & minor 6xth and 7ths in the same phrases that are good to think about.

This is a really great site and you can learn a lot really easily. Just one thing that I would add (and that I am actually practicing now) are the different triads. For example the Major, Minor, Diminished, and Augmented Triads (I'm not sure if those are the only ones, but those are the ones I'm studying now). But over all, this is a great site and it's really helpful.

Hey thanks so much for this site too! When I get really good an can fly through recognizing intervals. I should be able to play what I hear! For years I've noodled around with the major and minor pentatonic scale, and thats all I did. Tv on comercial, couldnt sleep, or if a melody would pop into my head I'd work it out. I think this will help me tremendously. Thanks again!

We all have strengths and weaknesses in in music. I was always a strong player but a fair to mediocre sight reader. I was good at theory which is memorization of organization and concepts. My sight singing and listening and transcribing what I was hearing was terrible. I could write the clefs and the sharps and flats faster than anyone when it was announced since I had theory down but when the teachers would begin to sing and conduct or sing and clap I was lost. I seldom got the rhythms right as I didn't follow where the pulse was or would only catch it in small glimpses. This was seldom coordinated with the pitches as I would catch a few pitches here and there but didn't know where they belonged in the rhythms or measures. Over time I have improved in this area as I see i only missed three on the first test I missed M2, P5 and m7. I see M2 and m7 as inversions so I need to work on this and there is no excuse for me missing P5 really. That is the tuning interval for pianos. I am getting better over the years and I hope to become a professional transcriber in my old age. I have my work cut out for me. I only did one on the second test and got it right it was up a m3 and down a P4. I didn't even try the next one which was a M3 up and a M6 up. It threw me out of key or the tonality and I realize I need to work at hearing three pitches in a row and coming at me in mixed direction. That is the first time I have ever had that challenge, in that way.

I am teaching privately, and have been involved with music teaching for over 50 years. This site will help my students immensely, and save valuable lesson time with not having to drill intervals so much. My students take OMTA and Guild Syllabus exams, and this practice will help with that, too. You are amazingly helpful, and I thank you for producing the site. A fellow teacher put me in touch with it, when I was adjudicating her students. It's funny how wonderful things happen in music!
Thank you, thank you. Judy W.
